The Cayman S was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2005 sometime before the normal model; the Porsche Cayman (without the S).

The Porsche Cayman normal model went on sale in July 2006. The Porsche Cayman S is powered by the 3.4 litre six-cylinder boxer engine. The normal Porsche Cayman is powered by a 2.7 litre version.

Clearly the visual design of the Porsche Cayman is based on the Boxster with a new front end featuring asymmetric headlights positioned further apart. Some might even go so far as to say The Porsche Cayman is a Boxster with a steel coupe roof and hatchback. It does seem to fit nicely between the Boxster S and the 911 Carrera in the Porsche range.

Porsche as a company are becoming very profitable and clearly they have learned from Toyota how best to reduce the cost of manufacturing. The Porsche Cayman shares approximately 40 per cent of its component parts with the Boxster and is built alongside the Boxster at the Valmet plant in Finland.

Although both the Porsche Cayman and the Porsche Cayman S are both clearly inspired and developed from previous Porsche offerings it does deliver a welcome and unique driving experience. Porsche seemed to have taken some of the best elements from all their previous models and produced a really impressive sports car. You will not be disappointed with your Porsche Cayman. All in all it is a fantastic sports car.
